I remember writing a note for our first fundraiser and saying that this organization would help us improve the quality of Annabel’s life. Let me quickly tell you just one way that it’s already happening...
Annabel’s world-class neurologist at UCLA was so impressed with what Dup15q Alliance was doing that she joined our group as a scientific advisor. Then she got even more involved, opening up a dup15q clinic at UCLA, one of nine that the Alliance has established. Then she went a step further, developing an autism study focused on kids like Annabel, who was fortunate to be chosen as a participant. Together, we’ve figured out ways to reduce Annabel’s anxiety and improve her communication. She’s a happier kid. And that study was funded in part by Dup15q Alliance. It’s just one small example. Your donations are truly helping so many kids like Annabel and families like ours.
Dup15q Alliance is not just a support group, but a family. While we are doing some amazing things on the research front, we have created a network that is unlike any other. We consider all members part of the family. We share each other’s struggles and joys. When we meet up every other year at our family conference, we refer to it as a family reunion. When my son is not sleeping for weeks on end or his anxiety is so high that we can’t leave the house for days, I have a whole network of people who understand and can relate. We are fortunate to have this organization that makes us feel like we are not alone. I give to Dup15q Alliance because I believe in our family and I want the best for them. I am grateful for all who have supported the Alliance because you have helped to make a very challenging journey much more manageable for us. You have provided us hope for a better tomorrow through your donations. Thank you for bringing families from all over the world together to share this journey, we are most grateful.
Why do I give? Because I am her mother and I want to give her the world, which is a whole different thing for our kids. I can put money away, so that someday the "home" she lives in is a little better than what the state will provide. That's not enough! This is the one thing I can do for her that gives her a chance. I can raise money and help science to help her, to give her a chance at all of the things we dream of for our kids because right now they are out of her reach. I will do everything in my power to lift her up a little closer to those stars...with the help of this amazing village! Thank you so much to all of you for supporting my girl and all our kids. It means the world!
